Default door lock question

I just bought a '03 Supercrew. When I put the truck in drive all the doors lock. When I return it to park they remain locked. Is this what should happen or should they un-lock when placed back in park? If they should un-lock what should I look for? TIA

they stay locked... safety precaution to keep passengers from accidentally opening the door while in motion or when you have stopped... the door should automatically unlock when vehicle is in park and you go pull the handle(pulling the handle will unlock door when in park.

My doors unlock when I turn the ignition off. My F-150 is a 99 XLT, 5.4 and a Viper security system. The Viper may have changed the stock door lock/unlock system.

You can disable the autolock feature if you want. Page 84 of the 03 owners manual should have the procedure.

Deactivating/activating the autolock feature
Before following the procedure, make sure that the ignition is OFF and
all vehicle doors are closed.
You must complete steps 1-7 within 30 seconds or the procedure will
have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be repeated, you must
wait 30 seconds.
1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Press the power door unlock control three times.
3. Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF.
4. Press the power door unlock control three times.
5. Turn the ignition back to ON. The horn will chirp.
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will
chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice (one short and one long
chirp) if autolock was activated.
7. Turn the ignition to OFF. The horn will chirp once to confirm the
procedure is complete.
