Update _ so the repair shop sent my PCM back. They found it beyond repair, so it is junk. I will have to get a replacement and deal with Ford now I guess. Just my luck!

so my PCM is not repairable, too bad of shape to fix or reman. Does anyone know if I can install a used pcm from another truck of the same eng/trans/etc? I assume the dealer will have to do the swap for me? Thanks to pats?

i did go ahead and buy a used pcm off ebay. The part number is the same as mine. v-6 5spd truck. I guess I will call Ford Monday and see what the damages are to get it linked up if it requires a pats sync. I assume it will. That will pretty much be a total waste of a hundred or two. But if the truck runs right...... Can't say its worth it but with this junk pats system I don't think there's another option. I will post once I get pcm installed.

I still haven't received the PCM but it is on its way. I called my local Ford dealer. They say that they have to link the replacement pcm, odds are it won't start if I try it. They did tell me it will cost around $95 but swap the old/new pcm for me. I don't know if they can or will do it, but I am going to see if they can disable the PATS garbage for me. If anyone can, its them. My trucks a 2003 with a rebuilt title. I don't think theft is a real concern here.lol

I imagine they won't but I'm going to ask anyway. I see no need for it.

Anyone know, if I try my replacement PCM and it doesn't work, do you think it would then start if I put the original PCM back in? Just wondered. I'd try it if it wouldn't be a permanent lockout. Rather not tow it to the dealer. I was thinking it would just be a "no crank" or "crank/no start" deal if it doesn't work. But not sure if PATS will let it start again after that with the original PCM

Not going to chance the truck not starting with new PCM and end up towing to Ford. Hope to get truck to Ford this week for PCM swap, my replacement showed up yesterday. Hopefully this fixes this POS. Always been a Ford man, but this is a joke. I am just too old school. I fix all my vehicles myself, it annoys me that I have to take this to Ford for something this stupid. Granted, its an odd problem, but still. Just not making me happy.
With any luck the new PCM will take care of it and it will run right. So far this truck has only been a bad investment. Maybe I will see it differently once it runs good.lol

Have all my stuff together now, replacement PCM in hand, a new chip key cut for the truck.
I get the stuff programmed to the truck on Monday. Hopefully this saga will be over.
Ford said it should be around $95 to do the work. I will post after its done.

I dropped the f150 off at dealer Sunday. They had it done by 9AM. They installed and reprogrammed my (ebay) used PCM with latest software and programmed my 2nd key. It came to $134. Easy and fast! Just to replace/reprogram a PCM is $94.99 if you have one to put in. Kind of stings that the key programming cost $39.95 but now I have 2 keys and can program more myself if I want to. The truck runs decent. ANd check engine light is off. Now it can be inspected at least, and should run better as it learns a little along the way!
Thanks to everyone who offered help and advise here!
