Default P0231 Code but still runs fine?

Hi,

The other day the check engine light came on, so I took it to O'Reillys and had it scanned. It has two codes, one being the P0231 Secondary Fuel Pump Circuit Low, and the other being Bank 1 Position 2 O2 sensor bad. I haven't gotten a new O2 sensor yet, but will this weekend. What is causing the P0231 code? no one seems to have my same issue where the truck still runs fine. Everything I have researched says it shouldn't start. I don't know what to look for. This is on an '01 with the 4.6.

Thanks

Ford repair info. Suspect it's an open in the feedback circuit between the PCM and where it splices into the fuel pump supply voltage circuit.

I did read that also somewhere, so I think we know what the problem is, but now, where would I begin to look for this issue?

You might have a bad connection at the fuel pump fuse or at the fuel pump relay (I trust that you have already determined that the fuse has not blown). I would check these first since they are easy and you can usually tell by looking at the connections if you have a problem. Don't change to o2 sensor until you fix the P0231 code because the fuel issue is most likely triggering the O2. You could also swap your fuel pump relay with your horn relay and see if this solves your problem. I this fixes it, a new relay is less than $10.

The feedback circuit as said

User ak even gave the details. What else is there?

Yes but where does this circuit run? I didn't even know the truck had a feed back circuit. I figured there was just two wires going to the pump.

Perhaps you better take it in. This info is spelled out in all Ford Service Manual DVD's...which are always readily available online fairly cheap. If you don't own a Cihilton/Haynes manual..well, that's not our problem either. You have to put at least some effort into fixing the problem yourself. We can help troubleshoot and guide, but you won't be able to follow if you not interested in REALLY fixing and learning about the problem. The basics is up to you basically. By basics I mean , telling blue from orange and chasing a LABELED circuit for you model year in any of the literature I posted above. Without it you'll be forever lost.

It sure didn't take long for the OP to run off did it. We tried to help him, but for some reason, couldn't or wouldn't follow our attempts to help. That is his loss, not ours.

No need to be rude. I get the impression Opie is not familiar with service manuals or training DVDs at all and should be educated about them and where to get them. I do not get the impression that he is avoiding them on purpose.
