These codes have been popping up the past few days. I checked the pcv snd valve itself is working and the elbow looks fine. But I can hear the vaccum leak. The psssssss noise sounds like it's coming from the back left side of the motor but it's hard to pin point

There's some vacuum lines around the back of the engine, check all lines and tees, there's an elbow on the back of the throttle body also (a PITA). If all those check out, I'd say intake gaskets. Which are also a PITA. Check all lines back there. Elbows too.

Okay I will have to do that. Whatever it is it's not affecting performance. Power is the same. Running a little rough at idle but nothing bad.

It's the PCV elbow, - that's all that's back there if you even have one. If not it's the line. I have no idea what you talking about in your post, but the least you should do is post what the hell we are attempting to help you fix lol

You know, model year ...engine. Hows that sound ?

Sorry. 97 4x4 xlt 5.4 extended cab. Like I said I looked at the pcv elbow and it looked like new. I kinda pinched my fingers around it to see if would block up a crack in it and it didn't sound different. Sounds like it's deeper back. Probably where the damn thing connects to the intake

So i noticed this morning that when you first start vehicle (cold) it does not leak or make the psssss noise. But after driving it for a little and getting the motor hot it starts to leak and make the pssssss noise

Hmm, I think it's still the elbow on the back. Since it's a 97 5four, it is indeed an elbow and that specific elbow , Auto zone stocks and it's hanging on the rack next to PCV valves in the store. I just picked up an extra..couldn't believe they had the 97/98 right there in front of my face lol.

NOTE: On your model, - That one plugs into the intake manifold just below the TB elbow. You can get it off by working in some WD40 to break the seal. Once you do that, it slips right off.

So you think it's the elbow that goes into the intake but not the elbow that's on the valve itself that goes into the valve cover?

Yea the cam cover tap area rarely has any problems, UNLESS you run a PCV valve other than motorcraft, - since NO ONE makes a valve with proper margins other than Motorcraft.

There's been times where the tube itself (the tube that routes from the cam cover ((valve cover/old terminology)) has cracked. - Or running the wrong valve has caused the cam cover grommet to leak but....yea various reasons, but it's the elbow that's been to most common culprit as they develop pin holes with time.

Side note: That little part (PCV valve) will eventually drive the engine to an early grave running the wrong one.
