Good day all!!

I did some research after my display went out on my 2K 4x4 and it appears there are one or two resistors that will break the connection, something like what the dash display does over time... I pulled mine apart and this is what I found ~ and the fix... I apologize if the pics are too big, it's been a while since I posted pics on the F150 forum...

Here are the two resistors that have issues... Oddly, both of mine were open... But on the front edge... I have seen some open on the back edge... I re-did both edges on both resistors...





Yep! I used some money to go under the resistor and clean things up a bit... Money is usually tougher than regular paper, but just as thin...


Now, you can really see what happens... The company that soldered the cluster connector must have made these too... same issues... I did a fix on that too, if anyone wants me to post those pics...


And here is the fix... Make sure you have a small, pointed, clean iron, and have flux handy to clean off the exess solder...


It is a bit hard to get in there and still keep everything clean, but take your time...


And the finished item that didn't have any display two hours ago...

If anyone needs more assistance with this job, or even wants to send me their board for repairs, I have no issues doing that... Ya'll gotta pay shipping and of course donations are always welcomed, but not required...
(I apologize admin if I shouldn't put that ~ just helping others!!)

Keep in mind that you may or may not have to re-cal your compass... You might be able to make out the "cal" on my display... I think those directions are in the owners manual...

mines doing the same but im pretty sure the resistors are fine so far. i have checked for any sort of power coming from the plug and i got nothing. but i dont have an owners manual to find the fuses any help? its an 01 f150 xlt 4.6 4x4 console with temp and compqass

Do you have a moonroof or is yours without? My compass is FUBAR but im not sure how to remove the shroud. Im not sure if you just yank down or not.

I'll check the book when I get home tonight for the fuse(s) you need to check... I think it was the larger pink/yellow wire for power...

If you look between the mirror and console, you will see a screw hole in the very front of the console... Then open the doors and gently pull down on the corners of the openings... there are four locking clips that hold the rest of it in place... One corner at a time!!! Oh, one door is held in place by the upper part of the assy, so watch for it falling when you get the console down...

No sunroof in mine...

If you have a moonroof its a whole different setup. Thats why I am not sure. I cant seem to find n e one with one that has done this yet. I dont just want to yank it down without knowing 100%.

It looks like it is fuse 23... You should have over 10V at the (WH/LB) and Chassis ground with the key ON...

I don't think my year (2000) came with a sunroof of sorts as I can not find it in the book... There is a compass unit that is held in by seven screws, but it doesn't have the garage door opener nor sunglasses doors... Just the reading lights... I guess the screws might be under the reading light bulb covers...

Thanks to this incredible write-up, I now have a working overhead console display. Saved me some serious cash, too! I priced some of these consoles near $500.00.
It took no time at all to solder the resistor in place. Thanks again!
