Default Oem 6 disc changer

I was thinking about putting an after market deck in my truck and was wondering if I have to anything different since I have the stock 6 disc changer in the back or is it just plug in like every other car I've had

There aren't any stereos that will let you still use your factory CD changer. For the price they are now, get a head unit that has a USB port and plug in a MP3 player, or flash drive with your music on it.
Having 800 songs at my finger tips, and not a single CD to bother with is priceless. I am only limited to the size of the flash drive I use as to how many songs I can have.

My CD changer is still hooked up behind the seat not being used if anybody is interested in buying it.

Exactly what skiz says. You'll lose your factory 6 disc changer capability. You can swap in a Ford CD-6 easily enough. That's what I have in my truck and I too have a 97. It all depends on what you want out of your head unit.
