Perhaps someone shoved a Potata up your tail-pipe ?
Yea, that would be uncomfortable I expect.

A stuck EGR valve can do that as well, - misfires and such, but only at low rpms. With plugged cats, it can't get out of it's own way and that's what happens...just as you described.

There's a few tests you can do. The flow meter at an exhaust shop is one. Another is to install a gauge into one of your intake lines and vac test the engine. The vac readings at certain rpms determines engine health and gives you direction to the problem. It works! You'll need a chart to go by. You can find that on any tech CD or on the net. Some have installed a vac gauge right in the dash lol. Very good at pin-pointing problems once you learn how to read.
Misfires are going to happen here and there regardless. Well, until you totally kill the engine anyway. Running an engine this way is VERY hard on it.

NOPE! No CEL for that. Hell your CARB compliant if your not pushing anything out, - or next to nothin anyway. There's a few tests you can do. The flow meter at an exhaust shop is one.
