Default No brake lights help

Hi guys, first post from a newbie from UK. It's my first American vehicle being a 2002 4.6.

The issue that's just started for me is that all 3 brake lights are not working, the fuse and bulbs all test ok. I am not the best electrically so have some patience with me.

At first I thought it was the switch but being an auto it is coming out of park no problem and the box downshifts when the brake is lightly pressed when in over drive. So not positive but I think that rules that out.

That leads me to the multifunction switch which I quickly removed today in case something was wrong wight the wiring due to the tilt steering wheel putting pressure on the cabling. I pushed and pulled each cable one by one whilst the misses watched the lights and no joy. I am suspecting that the multi function switch is needing replaced but would like to test it before buying one.

Now the next thing that seems to be directly related, after reinstating the battery the door chime now goes off when the keys are out of the ignition, lights off and door open, this never happened before. Have I done something wrong here.

Any help would be much appreciated guys.

Regards,
Kevin

the easiest part to test is the brake light switch i would start there, do you have a volt meter or test light?

You may be missing the correct fuse. (I did once on the road.) Check your Owner's Manual for every fuse mentioning brake or ABS. There are fuses under the instrument panel (left side sitting in vehicle) and also under the bonnet. Sometimes a blown fuse is hard to see. Just replace them with new if in doubt. I think when my 2000 blew the brake light fuse the center overhead console stopped working too.

Replace your brake light switch mounted toward the top of the brake pedal. Easy fix.

checked continuity on every fuse and none blown. ordered a new pedal switch and multi switch just in case. hopefully one of those will be the culprit.

Brake light switch is multifunction, like as said before just change switch. I have seen a couple expeditions where they will shift fine but the brake lights are not working, throw a new switch on and bingo, brake lights. Hopefully that will solve your problem!

Right, changed multifunction switch and brake light switch just 10 mins ago. No joy i'm afraid.

Anyone know which wire from the brake light switch loom is the power feed or switch wire so I can try and figure out if power is present.

At my wits end.

You may have a GEM issue going on there. Sorry to hear the problem persists.
