Actually PI swapping a NPI will yield close to 100hp on a 4.6 and around 80hp on 5.4.If its a 4.6 powered truck they didnt receive PI heads until 2001.

Yeah, so my 300 hp estimate was fairly close. The heads interchange, so you can throw pi heads off a 5.4 on a 4.6 and vice versa. But adding Non PI heads on a factory PI head will negate NA performance by highly lowering the CR

Nice update. I've heard the 1999 year before, meaning my truck would have a PI motor and PI lower end, but apparently I have a non-PI motor and can upgrade it with a PI head. That's nice to know. Now I just need to decide if the swap is worth it, and/or if I would rather go 5.4L.

This is also with supporting mods and tuning. If you just swap and dont do exhaust or anything else and tune the truck it will net around 35hp max on a good day.

Yes the tranny fluid and filter have been changed when they did the engine swap. With the newer PI heads there is less HP? did I understand that correctly? I would figure with a newer motor there would be a increase in HP. I was hoping there was a learning or pairing period so to speak where after so many miles the tranny and motor would start talking to eachother and the HP would return. doesnt sound like it. Thank y ou for the replies and info I did have to replace one cat due to a hole form the old motor failer. The cat on driver side was flowing clear

Thanks Carcrazy. I assumed you'd have to do a at least a new tune to compensate for the larger compression, and if you're that deep headers/y-pipe are pretty standard. I have that stupid exh. manifold leak anyhow that I'd like to get rid of, but I'm not doing it unless it's part of a bigger project. Doesn't even seem to mess with the O2. It's a pretty small leak.

What's the typical cost of a new tune?

Looking $380 or so for a flash tuner and 3 customs tunes. I originally had tunes from MPT that woke my truck up, but since then she got cams, switched over to E85 and a different torque converter so I ended up having it tuned locally because of drivability concerns.

Turns out the oil leak is not fixable on the new motor so they have to find me another motor and swap it again. Uuuuugh, good thing is the oil leak is not bad enough to where I can't drive and I do not have to pay anymore money to get it done.
