newbie here I have a few questions about my 4.2
I just bought a 02 flareside sport. It has the 4.2 motor, it currently has 127k and seems to run really great. It doesnt over heat. It holds great oil pressure.
Are these motors good for at least 200k if taken care of? From what I can tell its been very well taken care of mechanically. My other question is it has a service engine light on, I took it to autozone to get them to run it, they couldnt because of a blown fuse for the cigarette lighter. That makes no since to me. It has a small exhaust leak around the cat, I think that maybe the problem, but I am not sure... Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds to me like someone at Autozone didn't feel like doing it or something. I can't imagine why the fuse being blown would have anything to do with not being able to hook the code reader up???
Yes the 4.2's are good for 200k. The only problems I've had have been fouling plugs and the EGR valve, and the coil pack. Other then that it's been a good truck. I'm the original owner and I've been pleased so far...knock on wood!
Good luck on the code.

thanks, its had the coil pack plugs and wire and the egr changed. I was a little scared I read those motors are only good for around 125k. My dad has a 00 chevy with a V6 and the same amount of miles and his runs great, but his does the same thing.I am going to another autozone and let them run the code.
