Default New (used) Vortech S(upgraded to Si) trim kit. Have some questions

I picked up the kit from an individual on another F150 enthusiast site for $1100.

My F150 is a basically stock 1999 4x4 F150 with the 5.4. The only mods I have are cat-back system, and a KN CAI. Everything else performance wise is 100% stock.

I'll likely have it installed professionally by the local shop just to make sure it gets done right, but I have to pick up a few items first.

I'll need/want a A-pillar gauge setup. Any particular brand? I'd assume the gauges themselves are the more important factor there. Which gauges? I'd assume Boost would be the obvious choice but what else.

Need an upgraded fuel pump definitely, but are the factory fuel injectors up to the task assuming I run a low level of boost?

I'm going to have the mustang shop I'm brining it to do the custom tune but does that mean I'll have to purchase an aftermarket tuner in order for them to store the tune? Only reference I have for this is my Mustang which had custom dyno-tunes written for it and stored on my SCT Tuner. I assume this would be similar?

Is there anything else I'm missing? At some point I'll up the boost but for now it will remain near stock.

Thanks,
Mike

You'll need bigger injectors without a doubt

Ok that's reasonable. Do you have an idea what I'm looking at lb/hr wise?

I'm guessing the stock ones are 19 or 24.

stock is 19. It depends on how much power you plan on making.

Well I'd say right off the bat I'd be running the minimum amount of boost for it to be worthwhile. So from the anecdotal evidence I see around this site I'm guessing low 300's with an eventual target in the 400-ish range. However the second figure is long term. I'd like to do it right the first time so spend a few bucks isn't the end of the world.

The previous owner said I should go with a Walbro 255 lph intake fuel pump? I've done some searching and see them for sale all over the place? Are they all the same model assuming it says "intake" and "255 lph"?

As far as fuel pump go with a Walbro GSS342. I'll find the exact part number when I get home. If you plan to run more than 400 you may need a Dual pump setup from a lightning with twin 255's. As far as injectors I would run 42's right off the bat. THey should be good to about the 400-425 area. Also upgrade to a 90mm Lightning maf. It will be easier to tune that way. So when you decide to up the boost you should have plenty of air and plenty of fuel. A good tuner will be able to get the drivability near stock with out any issues.

This was very helpful.

I'm already in possession of a L 90mm MAF and the only other mod not listed that will be added are the longtubes I've got collecting dust in my garage.

I'll pick up those items mentioned today. Thanks!

Oh one last thing, I currently have the edge "tuner" and I should have done more research prior to purchasing it. I know that I'll need a custom written by the shop I'll be brining it to, I've read that nobody writes custom tunes for the edge tuner any longer.

I'll probably go with an SCT tuner as I have in the past. I know the shop that I'm bringing it to custom dyno tuned my Mustang and saved it on my SCT so I figure that will be a safe bet.

I'm really ignorant to this type of stuff, but reading through this, I have a question for you guys. Any work being done to the bottom end? If not, just curious as to how much hp or boost (not sure what measurement this would be observed) is the stock non lightning bottom end capable of handling reliably?

I wrote comments for each pic...but clearly I'm too old to understand the cloud....

TLDR

Supposed to be 42lb injectors (not bosch..kinda shady), walbro in tank 255lph GSS 342 FP, oil supply tube from a 2V 4.6 PI Mustang.

Questions comments and/or...concerns please say so.

I know that I'll need a custom tune, does that require an SCT style device, or is that only required if the shop plans to save it on my device?

I've got high end edge which works fine however I regret buying it since nobody makes custom tunes for it anymore. (my fault.).

Next purchases(s) a pillar gauge cluster + 3 gauges. Taking advice, know I need a AFR and BOOST...not sure what the third should be.

-Feel free to tear this post apart.

I don't remember the specifics but there isn't a huge difference between the L bottom end and the n/a 5.4 bottom end (at least certain years I'm sure I'll be corrected. Most likely by JBREW ).

Regardless my plan is to run a minimal amount of boost and a relatively safe tune. So my hope is that it doesn't immediately blow up. I'm fine with low 300-ish rwhp.

From my mustang days the PI 4.6 can do mid 400ish rwhp before destroying itself. I'm assuming that mid to low 300's would be fairly safe. It's a daily driver and I don't beat on it.

Things I've added since last post.

42lb injectors (I thought they were bosch but it was a shady ebay sale saying "not bosch ev1 style injectors". So when I searched for bosch 42lb injectors it was the first result. Will they work? Did I get completely screwed?

Here is several pics....terrible quality ones though.

I would send the injectors back. I would get a matched set from Ford Racing.
