I don't know what I am gong to do. I just don't have the tools and ability to do an engine swap myself, don't have the money to pay for it right now either.

I am probably going to pull the valve covers and maybe the timing chain cover and see if I can see what if anything is going on.

As for pulling the head, seems I read the engine has to come out (or cab lifted?), is this correct?

You do not have to pull the engine to work on the heads, it can be done with the engine in the truck. You could remove the hood to give you easier access.

Have been working and doing some classes for work so no time to mess with it, so no real updates.

I did talk to a mechanic friend of my mechanic (my guy will admit he does not know a lot about the modular motors, so he sent me to his friend who does lots of modular work).
I told him what was going on and he had a few possibilities of what it could be, from jumped timing to a stuck valve causing the rocker to fall off. He was a little stumped as to why just 5 and 6 had no compression while 7 had low compression. He also recommended pulling the valve cover and just having a look to see. He said it is possible to have this happen and be able to put the rocker back on and everything be fine (he did one about a month ago like that).

Once I have the time and the weather is better I will get to it. I have most of the stuff out of the way to get the valve cover off, I just need to get the PS reservoir out of the way and a few cables and vac lines then I should be able to get it off rather quickly.

I will update when anything happens though.

Lets hope for the best. I'm really wanting to see this thing able to become a DD.

Well, I went to pull the valve cover today.

Had most of the stuff out of the way already, but got all the wires from the drivers side harness disconnected and pulled it up out of the way. I got all the bolts loosened and could not get it off.
I had hoped to get it off without having to take the EGR tube off, but no such luck. I got the upper part of the EGR tube disconnected from the EGR valve using channel locks (and I had that off before when I had taken my intake off, so it was easy) but I just could not get the lower nut loosened with channel locks. I even took the wheel well cover off to get better access (which also made it easier to get to the valve cover bolts). No matter how I tried, the cover would just not come out with the tube in place.
I had enough fun for the day so I just said forget it.

I was able to look under the valve cover though and I could not see anything out of place off hand, so I don't think that was the problem.

Anyone know what size the nut is on the EGR off hand? I could go measure it with my caliper (but need to find it first) then I need to go buy the wrench for it (or maybe just get a larger adjustable wrench). Nut was already soaked in PB Blaster, but gave it another shot today.
Once I get the ER tube off, I will pull the valve cover off and snap a pic.

So I guess I am now looking at jumped timing (this is what I think it is), a bent valve or ?????

I would go with jumped timing.

Yeah, I am debating if I want to deal with that or not. I guess it is just take the other valve cover off, remove cooling fan, radiator and all front accessories then remove the crank pulley then pull the timing chain cover off then get the crank lined up and see where the marks are on the cam (or can I check it with just the one valve cover off?).

Since I was done for the day dealing with the engine and have pretty much decided I am keeping it no matter what, I started working on the keyed bed. Got my sander out and had a little fun.
There where also quite a few spots where the paint was bubbling and cracking, so I sanded those also.
A pic of the before is in the first post.

Glad to hear you decided to keep it. I've enjoyed keeping up with the thread and watch the transformation happen! As far as checking the timing chain, I'll do a little research myself on figuring out the best and easiest way to access to it. I'll post any links that I find will help out any.
