I am picking up a 2002 King Ranch in the next few days.
The exterior is pretty rough, interior is not too bad (the leather has no rips and the only really dirty area is the front arm rest, which is to be expected, a soda can had been spilled on the pass front seat, so some stains from that, but not a huge deal). The steering wheel is horrible though, just going to get a nice cover for it. I already have some Leather CPR for the seats and plan on using the hot towel trick on the armrest. Previous owner was a smoker, but it really does not smell, I think the leather has kept the smell down.
Mechanically it is sound overall for a truck with 180,000 miles on it. Engine does not leak or burn oil, tranny shifts fine and the A/C works.

I have not had a chance to go over it with a fine tooth comb, but the exterior issues I know of off hand are:

I am sure I will find other things when I get it (it is about 45 miles from me, need to get a ride there).

There's two or three types of damages for vehicles.

Complete disregard for the truck, maintenance and care.

Oh S*! damage

and the Wife. Sometimes this could also include throwing a screwdriver at it when you're PO. lol


The "Oh Sh*" damage is always easier to fix and makes for a good project.

Overall it looks like a great truck. Congratulations.

No really... its pretty ragged, but salvagable. Mind me asking how much you're getting it for?

Yeah, this was actually my cousins truck. He did maintenance on it, so mechanically it is sound overall.
The scratch on the side was from someone at his apartment complex keying it (not sure of the story behind that).
The locks were punched at grand casino coushatta a few years ago, no idea why he did not fix it. I am afraid to look inside the door and check for rust (hopefully the drain holes are not clogged).
The bumper fender damage he had a minor accident, not sure of all the details.

He moved to Colorado last year and has a company vehicle and does not need this any more, so I am getting a great deal on it.

I have been wanting another truck since I had to sell my Ram 1500 in 2002. I already have a daily driver, so I can take my time a fix this when the cash is available.
I figure to get it drivable and legal will cost another $200-500 (battery, already have tires, need to mount them, maybe a windshield) after that I will do stuff as time and money permit.

In my experience when the rear view mirror is messed up its easier to replace the whole thing rather than take it apart and do just the motor. Usually it's not that much more cost and its a lot more time Saving to find a used ebay mirror that works its just a few bolts that holds it in there. Good luck!

A crack in the windshield isn't something I personally would gamble on... especially if it's big. 'Cause all it takes is one sizable bump for that thing to shatter. My $.02. Overall, not too bad. I've seen much worse.

And as I've started saying in reference to HIDs, never go for PnP kits. Go for the real deal. You, your truck, oncoming drivers and your wallet will appreciate it.

Problem is it is a signal mirror, and those cost a bunch more. I know the caps are removable, so color match is not a problem.

Well, he said the windshield has been like that for 4 years (so I guess it will pass inspection). I will eventually replace it, it is just not high on the list.

As for HID's, I hate, hate, hate the ricer thrown in bulbs that do nothing but blind other drivers.

Check the local yards. You can get parts cheap, and I think navi or expy mirrors should work also... have more choices available.

I must say that truck was used and abused...but its not a lost cause and you description seemed a lot worse than the pictures...good luck with your build!

Wow, that is one great truck and you should have a lot of fun fixin it up. My only suggestion is for the headlights, you can buy new lenses out on ebay for less than $50 for the pair and I would suggest that instead of trying to clean up the old ones.
