Default New guy with my first Ford truck

Hey guys! New to the Ford truck scene. Just got a 2000f150 with a 4.6 for free from a good friend. It has 256k on her that's mostly all highway. Came with a bed cap that I'm selling and it could use a new tailgate and lower rockers on the 1/2 doors (extended cab) and needs new manifold, I manage an exhaust shop here in mass so that's no problem. . My other truck is a 03 Tahoe with over 200k. Really excited to start, already looking into a 2.5" leveling kit and 33"s. Anyone chime in on these motors and things to look for??

Change the fluids and be proactive on the maintenance. The 4.6 is historically a very good motor. It's not a heavy hauler, but good in it's own right.

And welcome to the forum.

Itts a 4wd. Would you recommend doing the tcase fluids, reAr end fluid at this mileage? Also I use mobile 1 fully synth on the Tahoe. Could I use the same? I don't use high mileage. Also I'll be doing the plugs and coils with the oil change and fuel filter.

motorcraft plugs and coils or you'll have issues. Go to Tascaparts.com all OEM parts and employee prices always have had good luck with them. And go to the dealer for transfer case fluid I got 2 quarts for $16 from my dealer. Don't use Mercon v because I've heard of a couple t cases blowing up. It says it on the bottle too not for t cases. ( Anyway front diff 2 quarts transfer case 2 quarts and the 8.8 inch rear end I think takes 2 quarts also. )

With 256k, only do what's necessary to keep it on the road. Start, go and stop. Dumping money into is a waste, IMO.

Fix what's broke and just drive it.

I agree 100% I wouldn't put thousands into something that may not be on the road in the next year or 2

Would it help or hurt doing the Mobil 1 fully synth on it at this stage?

I've run several High mileage truck. I always ran regular oil out of the bulk barrel where I had it serviced. Never had a problem. The last truck I hd was an 05 4.6 with 265,000 wheen I sold it. Didn't use any oil between changes.

I've read the synthetic oils are actually not the best thing to run on high mileage engines. The synthetic has smaller molecules or someting. Your more likely to have leaks and lower oil pressure. Regular oil should be fine, maybe better.
