Need Help! Torsion Bar Stock Setting
Ok so I'm not new to F150's, my last F150 was 97 Off-road EXt cab, my current is a 00 4X4 ext cab XLT. I've only owned it a week and immediately noticed it doesn't ride as smooth as my 97. It is extremely stiff over bumps and I feel every imperfection in the road. I don't like lifts or anything like that so when I got it I removed super springs from the rear leafs. I replaced all the shocks with regular oem style replacements. I'm now realizing the truck sits almost completely level or maybe my front end is even higher than the rear now. That's where my suspicion began of somebody cranking the torsion bars. My question is does anyone know how to set them to factory spec? Is there any rule of thumb to set them or just to soften the ride? If I back them off too much will it cause any problems?i k ow to crank them evenly by counting the turns. Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm... Yeah problem is that you don't completely know if they tightened them evenly... And I don't really know if there's a way to do it "right" some trucks have the bolts way out and some are way in factory... Lots even have one further in than the other

For an accurate reading go from the center of your hub to the bottom of the fender flare. He may not have the same size tires as you and if he does, it is not likely he has the same amount of tread as you.

Thanks for the help, I'm going to measure that today. I measured from the ground to the bottom of the fender well ester day and had 36 1/4". It has stock ford wheels on it but the tires aren't listed on the door sticker. I'm not sure if they were optional or not but they're 275/60/17. Maybe something with a little more sidewall would smooth the ride out also.

I measured mine I was at almost 24". I did back the bars off 2 full turns of each bolt and now I'm at a little more than 22". Is there any harm in the bars being too loose? I probably have about 1/2 a bolt showing. I also lowered the tire pressure from 38 to 34 up front and the tears from 35 to 32. It seems to ride better now. The rear is still extremely stiff though. Like I said I removed the super springs and associated brackets. Guess it is what it is at this point.
