Yep, that's a coolant bypass for what's called the cold cliamet system. The heater hose 1/4" runs to the plenum (or TB eldow) then connects behind the manifold into the heater core hard line. It's duty , -heats the IAC and PCV system. Keeps it from freezing or icing up in the winter.

Anyway, just plug it for now. Its a NPT thread. Until you get a new piece. Your going to have to go to the Ford parts counter and look the part up with him. They change part names and part numbers all the time. So that's what you have to do.

BTW, the new part will be shorter. Well, they changed/improved it anyway. They always break there...you'll see.

Just remembered, you might have to do this. - Once you get the new one installed and it's up to operating temp (coolant flowing ) while running you may have to crack bleed it. Same way you bleed diesel injectors when they run out of fuel.

So loosen the fitting to purge the air. BE VERY CAREFUL and only do this if necessary. Your going to trap some air, you can't get around it, - it may work itself out. Keep an eye on your temp gauge. Trapping air causes hot spots.

Since that's a 99 model year (no ECT sensor), you don't even need a nipple. Yea the 97/98's had a a sensor plugged into the top of that fitting. So, -use a 3/8 x 1/4 brass barbed fitting. So you can reconnect the 1/4" hose. The barb SHOULD point strait up by design. That would be perfect and heavy duty. National Pipe Thread. You can use tape on that, I'd opt for Loctite 567. That'll be brass into aluminum so be easy on the torque.

I can't believe you can't find the OEM fitting, they must have just discontinued it. I helped another person find that part not more than 2 years ago. That's how I found out they changed the design. He showed the part to me. It's a dealership item only, like I said.
