by the e4od came in 97/98 f150s too but only 2wd. my truck has one.

so what does the larger output and intermediate shafts do for the strength of the trans itself? just trying to figure out what affect it has. I'm not seeing how it makes a difference what the different sized output & intermediate shafts make when the input shaft size is the same, which I would think might be an issue since all the power is going through that before the larger output & intermediate.

Those really dont cause many problems. My problems came from the sungears and intermediate drums.

I have ripped nearly everything you can think out of that 4r100 3 times.
Questions for ya, I'm building a 4.6 that I plan to twin turbo to 700+ hp for my dune truck build and so it sounds like I might be in your same boat as far as transmissions go. How much power were you putting through your 4r100? And from my brief research on the 5r110, I gathered that it would be hard to get the transmission to work in these trucks due to the way it shifts and pcm differences and such. What would your plan of attack be to get this installed and running in these trucks? Personally I find it hard to trust even a built 4r70w behind a 700-1000hp engine. Thoughts?

Edit: what about a th400? Saw that mentioned above. Kinda curious about how those would work in our trucks

ah okay I thought they were a 2wd only thing, since I've only ever seen them in trucks that were 2wd. my mistake. how often did they come in the 4x4 trucks?

E4OD is different from a 4r100. There are huge differences. Also the super duty output shafts is different from the L spec and the standard 4r100 shaft. I'm running a super duty out puts haft and 1st, and second gear because of it. The E4od was 97/98 only and came behind all 5.4 powered trucks.

ahh okay. what huge differences were there between the two? I'm guessing the super duty shafts are stronger? I knew the e4od was a 97/98 thing, but didn't know of any other factors besides they only came behind the 5.4.

the torque converters although they may seem like they fit the pump gear and input shaft. They are different. The input shaft on a 4r100 has a small ring around the top of the shaft where as the e40d didnt. Lots of differences in the two. Some parts can interchange depending on model but 4r100's come in different packages as well. A stock lightning 4r100 output shaft wont fit our tcase its a different spline. The housings and bolt patterns are all the same, the problem is, in a 4r100 you have to take everything out of a 4r100 to change output shafts. 5r110 is simple as pulling out a shaft just link the input. My 4r100 is controlled by a stand alone unit, my PCM controlls nothing on the trans. My controller actually sends info to the PCM for speed and other options.
