I would go with aluminum. Steel is going to hold in too much heat and watch IATs go through the roof. Even with the cooler setup..

I don't have access to a tig all the time, so I will probably do a steel hat with the inside shaded with 22-26 gauge aluminum plating. The outer still should hold the pressure find, the 22 gauge aluminum will just be for not holding heat like the seteel. Might just get it ceramic coated on the inside and call it a day.

I don't want to weld to the midplate, and I dont want to go with 3/8 alum (too expensive) since I am bolting it to the midplate with a gasket. This is why I am going with mild steel.

Your not gonna need that much. I would use a planed piece of 1/4 6061-t6 for the base and .093" 6061-t6. Anneal it correctly and tig it will hold immense amount of pressure. Then have it chemically dipped in ceramic which would completely sheild it from temps.

That would be ideal, I just get this mild steel stuff at like 80%. I may just go with the mild steel shielded with ceramic.
