Yeah the frame rails will hold up just fine if everything is thought through built correctly, braced and gusseted etc proper locations and angles... I don't see an issue with it...

Haha nope! Same grill I've had, put it on shortly after I bought the truck and it's still on... polished aluminum...

What kind of natural front lift does someone get from a standard Solid axle swap, assuming you don't add long shackles or some lift kit.
I've though about doing the swap but I don't need or want height, just strength. ..nothing higher than say, leveled & a 3" BL.

For those of you that didn't see my rig before this thread I'll start from the beginning... Got it bone stock Then installed a 3" body lift and 33s, yeah I had a bed in my bed haha didn't feel like digging too deep to find these pics Then an rcx 5" and 37s Then 39s (I disliked this lift very much, it only stayed in for a couple months and probably about 100 miles cuz I didn't wanna drive it) Then did the ol' solid axle conversion on 40s (loved driving it but got sick of getting in and out, yeah I'm getting old but it was cool and I drove it like this for four years... Now she's dropped down 6" from there on 35s (been like this for about 3 weeks) So she's reborn, again... Im liking the new look and getting in and out is not a task anymore, also getting a MA inspection sticker isn't a problem and I can go out of town without worrying about getting a ticket for height... Edit: a couple of the pics aren't showing up in the browser but they do in the android app sooooo whatever I don't feel like figuring it out haha

Ya I know what you mean but the suspension being homemade shouldn't cost more than an ifs lift. All I am running on my truck now is heim joints and Chevy balljoints up front for the tie rod all dom. Wouldn't be my easiest project but I think I can manage it if I can do the 4 link first motor second

Coilovers: $3k ish
Rod ends: $1,200
Then you've gotta get all the materials, DOM and steel, bolts, you're using welding materials... there's another $800+ or so...
So there's $5k for the good stuff, hell you could spend a lot more on top of the line products...
Yeah sure you could get cheaper coilovers and nonrebuildable rods ends, smaller tubing, but why bother at that point...
I would use only the good stuff, do it once and build a beast...
Also the planning and calculating to only have to pull it apart and move mounts... I won't go into depth but to have the suspension function properly for what you want it to do, there are certain mounting points and lengths in relation to this and that not to mention how far apart the links are in relation to one another relevant to width... and mounting heights in relation to the axles height from the frame... 60% of this length for this and 70% of this measurement for that link and this height and that offset only to get it close enough to fine tune it...
Not trying to be rude at all, but you can't just say "this looks about right" and weld it there and run it... you can and will end up with some adverse effects and most likely end up with a few quirks to work out even if well planned...
Yeah coilovers are great, they offer an unparalleled ride and travel but if not planned and executed well, leafs will perform better and offer better characteristics.... one can really eff up a 4 link suspension...

The lowest I would say you could go is 4"... that's really pushing it... run a y link setup (steering) and you could probably go a bit lower if the axle isn't pushed too far forward...
