Default My SMD to CREE LED review

I know this should go in the Lighting section, but oh well. Deal with it. Unless a mod moves it... Anyway, to get not off topic too much I thought I would post on my thoughts on CREE LEDs.

I originally went with SMDs a while ago as I was doing an LED swap. Nice and bright, and had no issues. Recently, the cheapness of the LED was showing on the passenger side, so I took a look at other choices. The current ones I had were 80 SMDs, and thanks to Brownings, I decided to give CREE LEDs a shot.

Good. Friggin. Lord. My biggest regret is not going with them earlier. I had a couple issues with them being too big, so it messed them up a little. Thankfully, the piece on top screwed off, and it gave it even better, less restricted lighting. I took pictures of a side by side comparison. The driver side SMDs were still good with the exception of 2 of them out. A minor to insignificant difference. First pic is of when I changed the passenger side only with the small cheap "Projector" removed.

The second one is me standing in the bed looking out the back of it.

The third is both changed and a pic from an angle.

I will say this straight out. For those who have yet to do an exterior LED swap, go with CREE LEDs. They are more expensive, but worth it for the sheer light output. For those who have done the swap, I'd do it for the better lighting, but its also a bit stupid to replace perfectly fine LEDs. I did these as one was failing, so I'd give it a shot. I am going to be personally changing my exterior LEDs to CREE, as even though they are fine, the huge difference has convinced me. With that said, I bring this to a conclusion. I want to send out a big thank you to BrowningSCrew for directing me towards these LEDs. It is by far some of the best money I've spent on the lighting for this truck.

Can't wait for my CREE reverse lights to come in now!! Lol hopefully I can keep the projector part on mine since I'm working with a bigger housing. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a set of those CREE bulbs for my HELLA 500's, mod those, and see how well they work lol they're supposed to be rated at 1800LM which is more than a Rigid dually.

I was amazed at them also. Especially from the size of them... The CREE's were smaller than the SMD's, yet blew them out of the water... The projector part was hitting the lens, so removal was necessary. I'm soon going to be ordering a set for the turns and brakes. I'm looking hard for other uses for the CREE's. Be nice to find them in a T10 size...

And good luck with it! If you get them to work properly, you're gonna have more light you won't know what to do with, ya damn light *****!

Lol I just want the extra light from the dually's, but don't want to ruin the clean lines by having them on the bumper, and my grill would cut down too much light from a light like that.

All one would see is a giant blotch of light instead of a grill... Quite understandable indeed. Gonna wait until monday to order them though. No point in Sunday, and I've still got to get the label for the headlights I just sold. Getting them out Monday morning, so after that is all and done with, I'm off to eBay to grab a set of red and amber CREE/Plasma LED's. Gives me time also to track down some T10 CREE's also.

Yeah, I did a while ago. I considered those two days with out the flasher quite embarrassing... I didn't like the fact that I had Hyper flash from a lack of energy.

And got it. Getting a set for my failing license plate LEDs, and for the A/C controls.
