Default My new 97 f-150..

Bought this gem. 1997 F-150 5.4 4x4 with 69,000 miles. It's a 1 owner truck. So far my plans include window tint and taking off the running boards. Thinking about taking off the door molding too. Other than that, planning on keeping her stock for now. Just curious for your guys opinion on any servicing I should have done? Had transmission serviced in 03 when it had about 40000 miles. Can't remember when the coolant was flushed (have the receipts at home). Had the oil changed every 3,000 miles. Starting in 2011 it was changed with 10w-30 (before 2011 it was changed with 5-30). I see ford reccomends 5-20. I will probably go with that weight in mobile 1 synthetic next oil change if there are no concerns im missing in doing that. What would you guys do maintenance and servicing wise? Planning on keeping this truck for a while!

Going to take some more pictures tomorrow!

Nice truck!

I would just put some fx4 wheels on there with 33" tires, and enjoy a clean truck. Window tint would look good too.

The trans is probably fine and coolant too. Watch the full synthetic oil though. A lot of people dont have problems but the detergents can break down the sludge too fast in your engine and cause all kinds of problems. I would stick to motorcraft semi-syn and a motorcraft filter (anti drain back valve)

Appreciate the advise. After reading some, i see that is a very popular way to go. I think I'll stick with the motocraft. 5-20 or 5-30? Or should I stick with 10-30 that it's been getting?

5w20 synthetic blend is the only thing I'll put in mine, preferably motorcraft.

Yea, don't go with 100% synthetic UNLESS you know for a fact the engine has always used it. It's not recommended by Ford and if you switch to that from an engine running a blend or conventional, you could shock the engine. That of course could lead to catastrophic damage. I've seen this happen up close.

So, just run the recommended viscosity from engineering which is now Motorcraft 5w 20w Synthetic Blend (as of 2001 retroactive to 1997).

Nice truck, looks super clean.
