My first post, my truck, and my recent problem (rough idle)
Hows it going guys? New to the forums and would like to introduce my truck to the community! Im michael, I own a 1999 f150 lariat 4x4 with the 5.4 triton. Purchased truck last year bone stock with 119k miles on it.
Mods:
-6" zone offroad lift + 2" keys + 3" body lift
-40x15.50r20 Toyo MT
-20x14 Fuel Mavericks
-Edge cs programmer
-K&N intake, throttle body spacer
-4.88 Yukon gears
-True dual straight pipes w/5 inch tips
-Clear headlights/ depo fog lights w/15k hid headlights
-Recon tail lights/ 3rd brake light/ tailgate bar
-ion led license plate light
-54" Led light bar (2007 chevy rough country brackets)
-New 5.4 block installed at 122k miles
-15" rocksford Fosgate sub & 1200 watt amp, kicker door speakers
-7" double din touchscreen
-Billet grill
-5% tint, 20% on windshield
My recent problem i had, I would crank the truck and it would turn over then bogg down and sometimes shut off or either jump up rpm to around 2k and then idle fine or sometimes would repeat this process 4-5 times until it completely died, and i could smell burnt oil coming from exhaust. I thought the truck was either starving for fuel or possible grounding out because the dash cluster would repeatidly reset itself. I took the truck up to oreilly, guy read I had 16% vacuum leak and bad alternator which was already brand new and the truck was grounding out. Got a new alternator and replaced it since it was under warranty,I cleaned out the IAC valve, cleaned the trottle body, ended up replacing the IAC to eliminate that (badly corroded), replaced any crummy hoses and elbows I saw attaching from the throttle body, replaced the fuel filter, crawled all over the truck looking for chafed wires grounding out..still nothing. I then glanced at my starter selenoid and the ground post had broken off of it and was barely touching! Bought a new one, replaced it and problem solved! Any guys with similar problems check that out, never even crossed my mind.

Hey Michael, nice truck.
Yea those break frequently, - the 6mm post w/10mm nut. Best thing to do is rub in "A Special" grease before assembling. I wish they made covers /caps for these starters. Ford did so on some models, but not these for some reason unknown.
