Default More problems

I have two problems and and one code, i don't know if either problem has to do with each other
I'll start with what happened first
A few days ago my truck started ticking really loud out of no where and hasn't gone away, checked the oil was a little low on oil so I put some in and still the ticking continued, when I take the oil cap off the ticking is a lot louder, sounds like lifters or something but I don't know. I don't want my engine to grenade and not have a car anymore haha

Second is today while driving home my check engine light came on and it was the evap code P0442. Anyone know where I should start with this?

And lastly could the code have anything to do with the ticking?

I'd appreciate any help

Best of luck to ya with the fix man maybe its some sensor gone out and it will only cost $125 as compared to a new motor.

evap code is probably your gas cap is loose or the seal is worn out. start there. usually evap codes dont effect driveability all that much. its not causing the ticking noise

you will need to clear codes and drive it more after you take your gas cap off and inspect the seal. make sure its not flat, damaged or just worn out... if it is just replace your gas cap. clear codes and drive it see if the light comes back on

when does the ticking occur? on a cold start where the engine is stone cold and hasnt been ran for at least 24 hours? on a hot start? at all times? are you sure its not an exhaust leak? common problem for our year f150 is broken exhaust manifold studs causing exhaust leaks

A little more information would be helpful. With what you've stated so far it could be anything from a weak oil pump to a bad vacuum leak or even the vibration damper needing tightened.

When the ticking first started it was only when it was a cold start, but now it continues to tick after its warmed up and driving
When idling its most noticeable but when driving with the windows down I can't hear it

I had an '89 F150 with an inline 6 that stated doing hat in '97. Turned out to be the valve lifters were stuck. I just got some of that engine cleaner that you put in your motor oil and run through the motor for a few minutes before changing the oil. Cleared the issue right up. That motor never ran smoother, haha. That's something cheap you might try, though I make no guarantee it'll work brother.
