What engine would you put into your truck?
So my engine (5.4L) has been making a small knocking noise since i bought it 4 months ago. Slowly been getting worse to the point that I can hear it with the windows up and music on at times now. I had my friend who is a ford certified mechanic take a look at it the other day and he said i was doomed and it could go at anytime now. Im taking it to the dealership tomorrow to get a second opinion but with 307000 miles on this engine, its time is coming very soon.
So i wanted to get some opinions on from everyone on what they would put in as a replacement engine, anything from a simple 5.4L swap from another truck to building a completely new one from ground up to buying a crate engine to drop in. maybe even a diesel swap if possible. Just a looking for opinions on what YOU would do if your engine's time came.
by the way, my truck is a 2000 f150 with a 5.4L triton and a 4R70W transmisson but dont let those hold you back.

^thats cool but you do know thats just the supercharger right?.
I want this:
but really if it blows...I would get better internals, maybe a supercharger
something like this:
just a simple Lightning engine with an eaton (Id put a Kenne bell or Whipple)

Money an object or not?
Not an object: 5.4 Navi motor bored/stroked with super charger, cam's, p&p heads, about 800hp.
Money tight: Rebuild motor, while you have the heads off maybe do head work (porting the heads and port matching the gaskets).

And what do you think the cost difference would be between taking it somewhere to do a engine swap from a wrecked 5.4 versus just rebuilding the one i have?

soo im guessing my truck might need a little work to fit it?
