Default Is MERCON V safe for use in P/S pump assemblies?

Owners manual for my 02 F150 calls for MERCON in the P/S reservoir, but good luck finding it. I did find some DEX/MERC stuff at Walmart but was wondering if MERCON V will work in the P/S. Anyone use the MERCON V or DEX/MERC in their P/S?

dex merc is the same as mercon 3 will be fine but mercon 5 supercedes any previous mercon atf which also will be fine to put in your p/s

My only concern with using MERCON V is that a few folks I know said after they put it in their P/S, they started hearing a whining or small grinding noise? Not sure if that was because the pump had had it or the fluid.
