Default Looking to paint my roof soon

There about 50 tiny spots on my roof that are missing paint and primer and have surface rust. The largest ones are about the size of a quarter. I've been told to take the whole roof down to metal, then prime, fill, etc which I feel is excessive. And I've been told to just treat the spots, feather them out then prime, fill.

I was thinking of taking down the rust spots with 150g on my orbital ,then feathering out and sanding the whole roof with 150 by block, then 300 before hitting it with epoxy primer/ skim fill low spots / primer sealant / paint / clear. I may or may not want to wet sand the final clear coat. It is just the roof but I'd like to do a decent job. This will not be done with an air compressor.

Aside from rattling the paint on, is there any different or other steps you guys would add?

We could! I already have 2 cans of the duplicolor Ford match. < L2, M7023A, M7029A True Blue Metallic > but that's for mine first! Just need to figure out the best prep method. I'm also thinking about building 2 12x2 benches to walk on beside the truck
