Default looking into swapping out a 4.6 for a 5.4

I've read , searched and all that but what I'm seeing is that most are doing the swap are going to the SOHC 5.4. I'm curious as to swapping in a DOHC 5.4 from a 99 Navigator into my 97 w auto. current 4.6 has a blown head gasket that the guy just kept driving and adding water to so I do NOT know the current shape of the bottom end. If I do this swap, what top end parts will I need and what cooling system parts as well? Also I've seen some searches on Google saying the 99 Navi used a PATS system and other searches didn't say.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,
Nate

Navi definitely used pats. That wont matter though. Just use your stock computer and get a custom tune.

Would a tuner like SCT or Hypertech be what I'm looking for or something more like a dyno tune? I know there are other types of tuners out there, those just came to mind first. Also would I need to get the engine harness from the Navi or just adapt my harness to work?

You're gonna have wiring issues from hell especially going from the coil banks and wires to cop, you're gonna need the entire engine plus the exhaust and most likely the harness and lots of beer

An sct tuner yes but it will need a custom tune from a place like 5 Star tuning. Is your engine cop or plugs? I cant remember.

Current engine in the F150 is coil packs.... but instead of going with the COP set up... thinking the same setup as the 96 to 98 Cobra.... they used the same style coil packs as my truck currently does. which was why I was asking.

BadAss has this one down. It is a total nightmare going from single plug leads to COPs. Without the complete engine wiring harness, you will be up at night for a long long time. If you were to get a 2v 5.4 you could do more with it over the DOHC motor. You could go with your current system and make it work much easier than the DOHC switch. Just a thought for you.

I'm keeping the coil packs. Going the route of the 96 thru 98 cobra. So aside from the exhaust, what else wild I need from the engine bay?

Oh jeezz, what do you want a 4V for ? Do you realize how many began that swap and didn't have it in them to finish it.

What are you looking for from that 4V ? - I'm setting aside the headaches you can have just keeping one running right. There is one guy here recently that went pretty far with his, dumped some cash into the engine before offing it. That's the most recent in the engines builder thread. The one guy I did see complete one, didn't take that long it seemed, but he had the complete doner vehicle to work with. That was long ago though on the other Ford site. I think his user is CamdenLake ? Yea, I think that's it, try to look up his Navi swap when you feel like it.

I have a Stoffers List of all the parts needed for that swap somewhere, I may look for it if I make the time later lol.
