Default A little 'short'?

I have an F-150 supercrew 5.4L Triton with just over 60,000 miles on it. Yesterday after a short drive with several normal restarts I got home and shut off the engine. Just after I shut it off, I thought I remembered hearing a buzzing sound. I tried to restart it but it won't start. The symptoms are as follows:
The battery seems fine and checked at 12.99 volts with no signs of corrosion anywhere. When I open the door I get a clicking (one second intervals) coming from behind the interior relay box. When the relay is clicking and I turn on the reading light it blinks along with the relay. When I turn the key to Acc everything that should work is ok (lights, radio and windows). When I turn the key to On (one click before start) all the gauges go to max. This includes the speedometer and tach - everything. After a couple of seconds they return to zero then a second later the battery and fuel gauge register correctly. Attempting to start the engine only results in a faint click under the hood (it sounds like a relay not the selenoid).
When I jump it with our Jeep it actually started and ran normally as I drove it for 25 minutes. I checked the voltage at the battery while it was running and it was 14.5. When I turned it off and back to the On position - again with the gauges and when I tried to start it, it clunked fairly loudly (more than a relay) under the middle of the dash (not the relay area) several times and did not engage the starter.
I did have the windshield replaced last summer and it went all the way through the rainy winter season without a problem. I did notice the gauges max out once before, but it started and ran fine. I also just had the speed control recall applied a couple of weeks ago.

Check the ground. Check it at the battery and where it grounds to the block. Also check any small grounds that come off of it. Since you didn't give a year I can't look up any TSBs on it. Or any wiring diagrams. Good description other than that though. WTG on checking the battery and charging system.

It's a 2001 year. I got the 6 year 100,000 warranty and it ran out 2 months ago. Darnit. Why do you think it's the charging system?

Damn on the warranty. I don't think charging system. I think its a bad ground. Check them close. Clean them if necessary. Try running a new cable if in doubt.
