lighted Ford Oval - Stock or aftermarket?
We own a 2002 F150 SuperCrew 4x4 Lariat. It has a "lighted" Ford oval emblem on the right hand side of the rear tailgate. The light has never worked for us, and the dealer we bought it from 2 years ago, had no idea why it didn't work. Now, we've had an electrical issue with the vehicle that all goes back to this "lighted" emblem. No one seems to know if this was a stock item, or an aftermarket item. If it was a stock item or option, we can have our issue fixed under the warranty with our deductible, if not, we foot the bill. Anyone have any idea if this is a stock option or if it was aftermarket? The dealership took the truck in on trade and never checked this out at the time, and to us at the time, it wasn't a big deal.

The product is most likely a Lumi Logo lighted emblem kit, or something along the same lines. I'm 99.99% sure the emblem is not a stock piece.
The Good news: If it is indeed an aftermarket part, removing it and checking out the wiring shouldn't be too hard. (There's only so many places you can get wiring into the tailgate.)
I'm guessing your problem is that someone wired it up, and wasn't careful, and you probably have a short to ground. Since the most likely place to grab power back there is from the taillight assembly, I'm guessing they wired it badly, and that's causing problems.
What are the electrical problems the truck is having?

As this thread was originally started nearly 13 months ago, my problem has been resolved since then. It was a corrorded connection for the aftermarket lighted decal that was wired into the tail lights as suggested.

Here's a link to a small picture of one. It looks like they have actually stopped making them now. I know they never really lasted that long. Most people I knew that had them ended up replacing them a year later!
