Replacing door speakers in the 97-03's
So in addition to the sub i'm gonna be putting in I wanna go ahead and get a set of door speakers too. How hard is it to do that, and how do i go about making the new speakers...visible, because the ones i'm lookin at have blue l.e.d.'s in them to match the the ones under my dash. All advice and pictures will be appreciated. thanks

When you buy new speakers, you will not be reinstalling the factory mesh cover that go over them. You will be able to see the LED just fine as the only thing covering the speaker on the door panel is that grate... no mesh. The panel is easy to come off. The hardest part is lining up the door lock pins (that stick thru the panel) when reinstalling them.
I replaced mine and it took about 15-25min per side including r&r of door panel.

I couldnt tell you about the speakers. But i can help you with taking the door panel off. Just remove the plastic piece that goes up along the window vertically. Just pull straight out on it, there are just a couple pin things that hold it on. Might be a little stubborn at first. Then remove the little oval shaped plastic piece that is behind the door handle with a flat screwdriver. You will see where to insert it. and last, take off your door crank. (if thats what you have) It has a little cover that pops off and reveals a torx screw.
By taking off these couple things it will reveal a couple screws that you will have to take out. Then just push the door panel UP and it should come off.

welll right now i wish i had my pictures from when i put i put all my new speakers in 3 weeks ago but i dont currently have my camera.
taking the door panel off is the easiest part if you are installing a nice set of components up front or an amp in the back powering the front speakers because believe me running wire through the molex or finding a place to put your crossover without it scraping your window on the way down is a pain in the a**.
having the leds showing through the grate would look pretty cool but please dont do what most people that put aftermarket speakers do and cut a whole in that grate a put the speaker grills on top so that everyone and there mother knows you have new speak's. nothing screams steal me more then that except stickers from every aftermarket stereo company your running in your truck lol.
even my stereo guy said his installations of component speakers and an amp take a long long time. but in the end it is worth it. believe me when everything looks factory and wires are all hidden and everything is lookin sexy and you get the amp tuned up nice and listen to it for the first time loud as he** with no distoration it puts a smile on your face and it makes it all worth while.
well this is my first reply to a post sorry about the story lol

the stock speakers in a 97-03 are 6x8. You need a ford radio removal tool. Or you can make from a metal coat hanger. Just bend it in a U, slide it in the holes on the sides of the radio and pull outward sliding the radio towards you. Normally its not hard but sometimes it can be a pain. In my bronco I had to remove the HVAC and push from the back side.

Hey man don't worry, ask around, i tell stories quite alot on here haha. And thanks, that was my next question was about the grate in the panel infront of the speakers. I was making sure it wasn't just me that thought it'd look kinda weird to cut into those...i'm like you, i'd rather it look stock, and sound amazing than have stuff slung on everywhere. Thanks for the help
I know people that have done it and as much as the grills are made to look good and usually do, they look really bad stuck through the door panel. to me it looks very ricer lol.
if you have anymore questions about this stereo stuff at all i should be able to answer most things. i have done alot of stereo stuff to my truck (MYSELF) and i have went through the trial and tribulations if you know what i mean lol. i carry a little tool set with me just so i can tune my ricer friends car stereo when they sound bad or hook them up wrong lol.
one of my passions is car audio so im happy to help if i know the answer
