2001 5.4L V8 Exhaust is steaming after intake manifold replacement
Hey guys, happy Independence Day!
I just finished a 3 weekend long project on my 2001 5.4L Triton V8 F150 - replacing my intake manifold (it had a small crack and was leaking coolant all over the place), and I went ahead and replaced all the spark plugs and ignition coils while I had it all disassembled.
I finished reassembly this morning, put in fresh oil and coolant fluid, and fired it up. It had to turn over a few more times than normal to start but I think that's probably just because everything had been drained and the fuel pump had to get gas to the engine before it would fire.
Anyway it started up but I noticed that there was steam coming out of the exhaust pipe (I took a conservative whiff of it and I'm fairly certain that I'm not smelling any gas or oil smoke). Also, under the truck where the exhaust manifold splits off there was a little bit of steam also leaking out of a few junctions. There was also water dripping out from one of the pipes along the exhaust manifold.
I'm thinking this is just condensated water that is working its way out of the system. The engine was more or less "open" (intake manifold removed so the ports were all open) for nearly 2 weeks (waiting for the new one to arrive in the mail plus I have only been able to work on the weekends and this is my first time on a project this involved). Of course the hood was closed and the truck was under cover but I live in Houston where it is very humid plus we've had a lot of rain the past 2 weeks. So could some water/humidity/condensation just worked its way into my exhaust system then when I started it for the first time in 2 weeks it is just evaporating out and therefore steaming?
I idled it for about 5 minutes total and the steam seemed to be getting less and less but it still concerns me and so I wanted to post this and ask y'alls feedback before I run it any further, in case I may be missing something.
Sorry for long post but hope someone has some more insight than I do here or can confirm my suspicions. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.
