Default intake manifold replacement?

well i took my truck to the shop this morning to have the intake manifold replaced. i am having them replace the factory one with a dorman due to it leaking antifreeze. is this a common problem? was there anyway to fix this besides replacing the whole thing?

Extremely common problem. I assume you have a 4.6 or a 5.4. The only way to fix it is to replace the intake. The new intakes are upgraded from composite coolant passages to aluminum coolant passages. Retail on that job is about $500. The intake itself should be around $200. It may be a little higher if the shop is supplying the intake due to markup. And I don't want to hear anything about shops marking up parts. A shop is a business and they have a god given right to mark up parts to make money.

Yeah, I've done so many of those on Mustangs now, I've gotten it down to 20 minutes to swap the whole thing. For awhile, I was getting a ton of those through my side business.
