I brought my pattern to the Fab shop, looks like I will have the 3/8 steel version tomorrow. Should be hell for stout and all dressed out and finished it will cost me 80 bucks. Pretty stoked to feel like I have my truck back and reliable. Will be hooking up the boat and hunting some Walleye tomorrow night at this rate!!

Looks good but 3/8" is WAY overkill. Your frame is roughly 1/8". I would go with 3/16" for your bracket/gusset. "Double sheering" that mount like you are doing will make it a lot stronger at the attachment points and spread the load across the frame.

Sounds like you've thought it out well. No doubt that 3\8ths will be substantial. How does the rest of the steering linkage look? It took some force to do that and how much force transferred along the steering chain of parts? You might want to give all the front end suspension bushings a good once over too.
BTW, From what can still be seen with the idler arm back in place, your frame and body guy knew what he was doing. It's a good looking job. It would be nice to see it from the back side. Everyone should have one of those flexible scope cameras!

At this point I will just be glad to have the boat back in the water. I have a few killer spots for river walleye here in Montana that should still be pretty active. If I strike out there the big Browns and Rainbows are just up river a bit.
I was thinking I agree that 3/8" may be a bit much, but it is being built now so that's ok, it will give me a bulletproof piece!
The rest of the steering has been checked out and given a thumbs up, but once I have the bracket installed and everything is complete I have a guy here that does nothing but front end work for 25 years. I will have him examine it for me in detail to make sure there is no contributing factors outside of previous owner abuse. It aligned just fine and everything looks and feels smooth so I think it will check out.
One additional thing I was considering is a steering damper, does this help absorb some of the shock at the steering attachment points or just in the steering wheel? I guess the question is would it be worth installing considering the large tires and history?

I don't know anymore then you about stabilizers. I always just thought of them as dampeners but never really considered how deep into the system and linkage they went for the effect. Good question.
