tranny problems???
i have a 97 f150 regular cab flare side with the 5 speed and when i am driving down the road in 5th gear it will just pop out of gear on its own. if anyone can help that would be great. hopefully easy fix.

To inspect the shift linkage the transmission must be removed. Pulling off the shift control housing will expose the 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th gear shift forks but not the 5th and reverse. It will however expose the shift gates for the reverse and 5th gears. If they are loose that is what would be causing the slipping out of gear. If they are ok then the extension housing has to come off to see the 5th gear shift fork and syncro.
