Default 4.2L V-6 Cats Clogged

Very reputable Mechanic family friend found that my lack of power and acceleration was due to almost completely clogged catalytic converter. Any suggestions as how to remedy this situation? I know cats ain't cheap, but is there any exhaust system that I should look into? Cuz obviously I'm gonna have to remove and replace, and instead of paying out the ***** for the stock replacement. So should I buy something aftermarket, or is there another option to fixing my problem?

Could delete the Cats and incorporate Gotts mod. Although not sure if the mod fixes the deletion of all cats. I think its good only if you delete the rear cats.

I have to keep them for Missouri regulations. Anything newer than 96 has to have emissions testing.

Every year?

I live in a small town in Canada. No emission test for us at all here.

Sorry.

Damn. Those are expensive cats. Minimum of 200 per side of the engine. Looks like a simple install, it's just the $400 for the cats and a few dollars for attaching hardware that makes it so bad. Rock Auto has them for this price. I didn't see if you had 2wd or 4wd, so I just looked at an average.

If both side cats are plugged then you will have to do both sides. Not typical to see both sides plugged. You would have to test back pressure on both sides of the engine. My shop would cut out and weld in new cats. Usually about 200 per side if there is enough room to weld. If there isn't enough room. Replace the y-pipe. We have no emissions testing here in MN. I would go with aftermarket y-pipe, over welding in. Has a better warranty and there shouldn't be any emissions problems then. No code P0420 P0430 after repairs.

I have a 2wd, and no we register every 2 years. it's all the stupid hippy liberals in this state that screw it up for the rest of us. Anyway, I believe it's the passenger side Cats are the bad ones. Is this something I can cut out, buy new, and weld back up in place? Can I buy an entire new exhaust system and get dual exhaust and be cheaper or a better deal than this. I'm just confused cuz I've never had this problem before. I mean, I'm tempted to just drill holes in the damn thing so I can at least drive it until I can pay for a proper fix.

Just have a shop punch the inner part out of the cat out. You can replace just the pass side then. Can be clamped or welded into the y-pipe. No need to mess with the driverside unless it is also restricted. Glad to hear you found the problem. Can't believe everyone thought it was a vacuum leak. Vacuum isn't the problem under hard acceleration. Idle problems yes!

Do u know if they sell whole new dual exhaust systems for a decent price rather than payin the 500$ for 1 side to be fixed. That's what the shop is gonna charge me.

I just found some direct fit converters online for a lot cheaper than any shop. Does anyone know how big of a job it would be to do? It says direct fit, so does that mean they will bolt on and off?
