Default A/C repair Help.. 1997 F150

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice or help in repairing my current a/c system. Truck is 1997 f150 4.6l I had a compressor seize up and removed and replaced with a bypass pulley. Now with temps rising in Az I'm cooking out here. I have located several replacement kits for this truck that includes compressor,dryer/accululator, orfice tube and various seals and compressor oil. With all that is it possible for the average guy to make the necessary repairs. I consider myself knowledgeable and make many of my trucks repairs and troubleshooting. Thanks to this forum and youtube. A/C stuff seems reasonable. I'm trying to locate any material for the R&R for the system. I have access to vacuum pump and manifold gauges/refrigerant. Is this something that can be done by the average joe or should I leave to a shop. Any comments or input is appreciated.

Thanks.

I am a novice but with a prayer, a frustrating night and another prayer; I fixed a gal from church's AC and saved her a ton of money. She still owes me a sandwich.

It's possible; but tricky and there's no real way to know if you're 100% on it.

If you have the money; take it to the shop and reduce your risk of blowing out a compressor or something. If you're like me. Do it and learn a ton. Ericthecarguy.com has the best step-by-step that I've seen.

I had the compressor go out on a 1987 Mercedes. I bought a rebuilt one off eBay that came with a dryer and oil for under 200 bucks. A local shop swapped it, vacuumed it down and charged it for under 200 bucks. It has been working fine for 6 years.

For starters you will need a vacuum pump and a set of ac gauges.
