Default How much and what kind?

I blew up my transmission a few weeks back, and I finally got around to pulling it and bringing it to be rebuilt. Now I'm ready to throw it back in, but I have a few questions.
1)Any Mercon type fluid is ok? Any suggestions?
2)How much will I need to fill the converter, trans, and t-case?
3)I assume the tcase uses the same fluid as the trans?

2000 F150 4x4 5.4 with electric tcase engagement. Thanks very much for any input, this forum has been great to me so far!

If you have a 4R70w it is Mercon V only, right about 14 qts for a complete fill.

For a 4R100, you can use Mercon ATF, but Mercon V is a much better fluid for not much more. 18 qts for that one on a 4x4.

T-case is Mercon ATF, about 2 qts. Mercon V is fine for that too.

As for brand, I used the Wal-Mart stuff with no issues, and is around $4.50/qt.

Yea, don't use Mercon, -IF you can even find it. It's been discontinued since iduno, -2002/2003 ? It was the worst transmission fluid ever formulated IMO. It's a transmission killer. There's a long story (Ford history) to go with for those interested, but research would turn all that up quickly. Research that revolves around Synthetic developement.

Anyway, for the trans, transfer case and even power steering the best stuff to use is the 100% synthetic formulations. Merc V at the very least. If you want to step up and it's worth every penny IMO, - go with that Amsoil stuff if you can stomach the cost lol.

I did it back in 08, all at the same time. Yea, it was pricey, -back then I put my trust in another individual and it's paid off. Trans came back to life (it was almost shot, would barley move the truck) and it took all those old truck high speed vibrations away. A major difference in temps and that's what gives longevity... - as it prevents formulation breakdown.

So at least use a synthetic, - Merc V will work.

Thanks a ton for the responses. I ordered a bunch of Mercon V and an external cooler from Summit last night.
