Are you sure it's not just the fuel injectors ticking? I've also read that the the 5.4 is a little noisy. Mine has 149,xxx on it now and it has a little knocking when cold but it's been the same since it had 80,xxx on it when I got it. It has not gotten worse.

I have a 98 4x4 screw, 5.4. Bought it in Feb with only 12,985 miles. I currently have about 25K and running strong.
For sale if any is interested. adtalbot430@yahoo.com

1997 F150 4.2 eng. 280,000 klms. New fuel tank, new water pump, 3rd set of tires, 4th set of brakes, (fronts only) not the backs, all new front end, tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints, starter, alternator, cats, and pretty soon a new exhaust. probably my last Ford.

I have 112K on mine and going strong. Not bad for a 4x4 that spends 85% of it's time off road, the other 15 is spent getting there.....
....too bad my tires won't last that long
