Default How long has YOUR power steering been doing the whine?

Just wondering if many of you have the PS whine and how long you've had it. My 03 S-crew whines, 114,000 miles on it. Changed out the real dirty fluid today with no effect on the whine. Didn't really expect that to fix it tho. I'm wondering how long I can just let it whine. Tracka96

Until it quits. J/K

Mine also has a whine. I thought about draining the fluid and putting fresh stuff in to see if it helps. Guess you saved me the trouble though.

Default power steering whine

Was told there was an adjusting bolt/nut on back of pump and this would take care of whine,,,never tried it ---my 03 does it also,,,not bad. may be worth looking into,,,

I put 85,000 on a 99 xlt with a 4.6 and it had the ford whine the entire time and it's probally still whining. Ford still hasn't figured out how to make a power steering pump. If you hear 10 vechiles with a whine 8 are Fords.

Whines with any amount of wheel turning, the noise doesn't bother me at all, but I don't want a breakdown.

My 89 had to be filled daily with PS fluid and whined like a cat being beaten with a switch. But never failed on me. My "new" truck i just got doesnt have a whine(yet) but its a ford so i can deal with it. Now if a chevy or dodge started whining id be real scared something was going to break.

mine whines too with any amount of turning of the wheel. I swapped out some of the fluid once and it looked/smelled none too good, I should probably do a complete flush. IIRC Justcallmesean did a PS pump swap on his truck using a "GM" pump and it took care of the whine

That is just a Ford thing. My 06 started doing it after 10,000 miles.
