First off, I am new here, so hello everyone! Received a 1998 Nascar Edition F-150 from my brother recently, and I am selling my car to fund the needs of this truck, and since I am a college student, I cannot have these issues, as it is my main transportation. Anyhow, 134,000 miles, needs some tlc, and was bought for 700. I can tell you, not the prettiest of them at all. Has been through a rough time. Anyhow, was bought, had a bad engine, replaced with another engine, has rebuilt tranny, and new rear shocks, and could use some help in the front suspension wise.

Now, the issue. This truck would not charge, new battery, new alternator, still no charge. Checked fuse box in the engine bay, and in the interior, all good. So, I was stumped, then I found the light green wire, with maroon tracer, that goes behind the two 175 amp fuse box, unplugged it, put an alligator clip on the connector prong, ran it to the battery, and it charged. Alright cool, so I cut it, and spliced it, ran it into the battery and everything seemed fine. Came back later to start it, battery isn't up in the normal operating range, turn on the ac and lights, battery goes down. Alright, so I read up on the 175 amp fuses, purchased two of them, installed and problem solved, and so I reconnect the wire I spliced, back to its plug, and reconnect it to the other end. Everything is going good, make a few blocks, all that good stuff, and come home an park it. Thirty minutes later, start it, not charging. I am seriously stumped here now, as I have two brand new 175 amp fuses, 20 amp fuse below the box is good, every fuse I have checked it good and has continuity, new battery, new alternator, new starter relay, and I have no idea what it is! So, I say **** it, go inside, cool off, come back out, start it, low and behold its charging, so I am relieved. Come back out 10 minutes later, not charging again! It is not the ignition cylinder either, as I checked that. I may also have a broke clockspring, but I don't believe this has any effect on my charging problem. I did notice I believe, that when it is charging, the air bag light is on, on the dash, but barely, and when it's not charging it doesn't come on. Also, the battery light never comes on. Can anybody help? Please! I am thinking a bad/loose connection like a ground maybe? What about the ECU? I have no clue where to go from here. Is there any alternative way to get this thing to charge?

Thats where I would start...check all your grounds...replace any cables or wires that look suspect.

Checked all the grounds and cleaned them. Checked all the fuses and made sure the contacts looked good so i cleaned them. Still has charging problems. When running it charged fine, then quit charging, then started charging again while running. Not sure what else it could be.

It's not unheard of to get a bad, new alternator. I just had one go bad. (my old one, not a new one) It would slightly charge with no accessories on and slightly discharge with lights and AC on. Battery lights never came on but it was bad.

Check all your positive connections too...could be a loose one
