HELP!! grinding popping sound (not engine)
I'm getting a noise from the front end and sometimes it makes kind of a popping sound, and sometimes it just makes a grinding sound almost like mud tires. I have checked the wheel bearings, and the way I did this was jacked up the front end on each side and either tires had no play at all. Just to make sure I even took the caps off and spun the tires and there is no grinding sound at all and they are both packed full of grease. However I looked under my truck and the straight bar that goes beneath the frame and connects to each side (from driver to passenger side) I believe is the sway bar. The sway bar has a curved piece on each side that connects to the lower control arm. on the driver side the bolt is toasted and obviously that needs fixed immediately but, my question is, how am i getting the sound that i am from that? or is that the problem? what else could it be?? this is driving me INSANE

Does it happen when you are braking, accelerating, turning? Does it appear when your going over bumps?
Right now I'm diagnosing a grinding sound I get when decelerating/braking. It is not constant, it is in sync with the wheel/rotor I believe. I had my calipers off when I replaced my ball joints and one of the pads fell out. I think I might have gotten some grease on it or something when I put it back in.

stabilizer bars make a nasty sound when the links break.
sounds like you may have a CV axle problem.
does the sounds constantly happen when you are driving or does it only happen when you hit a bump?

Jacked it up tried to check for play with the tire on (had none). Then checked rotor for movement by hand (had none). Eventually took the hub assembly out and the bearing and wham, 3 worn out ***** inside the bearing.
Just because you can move it by hand, doesnt mean your 3000lb front end wont shift it a few cm's when cornering.
Best way to check without taking it out is the sway test at about 15-20 mph.
