Check the fuel breaker (inertia). You have a fuel pump reset under the passenger side kick panel. Check and see if it's tripped. If tripped it will push downward reset and lock.

Sounds to me kind of like a bad connection. Remove the battery terminals and make for certain they are CLEAN! A bad connection will cause all of those symptoms, except for the key coming out when it's on. I don't believe that would stop it from running though.

No fuel was a major symptom of the OP's initial post. JBrew said check the inertia switch. YES.
You are going to have to break this down to sections. You had no fuel, had to put fuel on the a/f, so that is one thing. Then it started and ran. On it's own I believe you stated. This can be so many things. (Bad fuel pump, fuel filter clogged, inertia switch problem, injection part malfunction and the list goes on). The flashing theft is another.
Does the fuel pump pressure up when you turn on the key? Can you hear the pump coming on? If not, check the fuel pump fuse, if you've already done the inertia reset. If you have a good fuse, then check the power to the fuel pump. If you have power (and the pump pressures), then time to check the PATS ring, and or the key. I'm sure you have checked all the fuses in the dash fuse box, and also the power distribution box on the left side of the engine bay, right? If not, then make sure all your electronics are correct first. This will save you a lot of further headaches. If you have fuel pressure and no fire, then it is probably the PATS or the PCM.
Usually the keys are bullet proof as far as the electronics. Since yours engages the starter, the key is reading. Otherwise it wouldn't turn over and you'd only see the theft light flashing. Have you read the codes from the theft light? It flashes a code when first turned on. I'm fairly sure your year truck does. If not, then run a code reader and see if any codes are set either for the fuel, or the PATS system.
If you think it is a PATs problem then pull the lower cover to the steering column. Look at the switch and locate the ring around the cylinder. Make sure the wiring is good and the ring is in good condition. Sometimes it can be as simple as that. Let's hope.

Bear, PATS kill both, shuts the rail down and ignition. but the vehicle started like you said and that's the reason for my reply. You can trip the Inertia cutting just the fuel and nothing else.
