Default Heater Not Working

Hello all. I'm new here and since my truck is "coming of age," I thought it would be wise to join the forum!

My problem is that the heater is blowing cold air. I checked the antifreeze and it seems like the hoses are hot. This leads me to believe (after research), that it's either the blend door or the actuator itself. What's the best way to trouble shoot which one it is? A neighbor took off the glove box and said the "door" was opening and shutting ok. Don't know if that's the blend door or not. He told me he thought it was the actuator itself. Is he right?

I'd appreciate any help on this. Thanks.

P.S. I've got a '99 XLT, Automatic

So you are absolutely sure it is not the T-Stat? I would at least start with that since it takes 5 minutes to replace a grand total of $15ish worth of parts. Start small and easy.

The temp gauge in the truck is right dab in the middle and haven't had any other issues with it. I don't know if this means anything or not.

The heater core could be plugged. While you have the coolant drained to do the thermostat remove the hoses where they go through the firewall and try to flush water throguh the core with a garden hose. Flush it the reverse direction of flow to get any blockage out.

I've been told that if both the hoses are hot, then it shouldn't be a core problem. Is this correct? The last thing I want to do is take that dash off so I'd love an easy fix like this. But all indications are the actuator stuff.

Not sure if this is your problem but the problem i had with my 97 was the **** that controls hot and cold temp was cracked on the shaft just enough so that it slipped. i switched it with the fan speed **** and now its fine. Don't know if this will help but it fixed my problem
