Hey carcrazy question for you I've been searching for a short somewhere in the harness but can't find one. You even hear of the auto light fuse continuously popping at random times

Fuse controls auto door locks overdrive and auto lights I just keep replacing it the fuse varies in its life expectancy I can go a day or a few months with each fuse installed no pattern or rhyme or reason to it curious if you know of or heard anything to fix the issue

You should be able to add autolamps if you wise. The grey connector that is just clipped under the metal bracket looks to be for autolamps. If you buy a surfboard and sensor you autolamps should work.

First start by disconnecting the light sensor. I will have to look the power distribution for that fuse to see where it goes to possibly get a idea where to tell you to look.

I have actually seen that issue before, never had to diagnose it tho. One of my coworkers way back had to. Has the dash ever been out of your truck?

not that I know of im the second owner I've read that some wires rub on the column and cause it to short but I looked and there doesn't seem to be any sign of bare wire anywhere. I've had the issue since I purchased 4 years ago with 60k I put 180k on it myself and learned to deal with it. However it would be nice to actually have all the options working

I was thinking it may be the auto headlight sensor itself since I can play with overdrive all day long and nothing happens but when I have the auto lights on and play with overdrive it pops the fuse

No problem. If you find a surfboard, the light sensor is attached to the surfboard.

like carcrazy said if the harness is there go pull a new dash panel and grab an auto light harness and plug it in you should be all set from there

I had a similar issue but the autolight in my 97 are on a different fuse. I actually had the wrong auto light sensor in mine. I highly doubt the sensor is bad, but it could be a possibility. I mean photo cells are very robust, especially when they are not in a outdoor or wet enviorment.
