What would you need a 8000 lb boat for anyway ? A 7000 lb fish ?

Thanks for the replies. I'll see what I can come up with on the cable. Its not stiff and it always releases fully, but I'll take it apart at the front and back and see if it moves freely.

My big reason for needing good parking brakes is twofold. First, my driveway is really steep, and second I'm in the process of fixing the shift rail bushings. They're bad enough that its really hard to get the parking pawl fully engaged. Twice now I've come out to find my truck in the front yard. Needless to say I'm a bit gun shy.
