Exclamation Grinding noise wile braking then a loud clunk... HELP!

Hey guys I am new to the forum and this is my first post so bear with me. I have a 1999 F150 with a 5.4 and 8 out of 10 times I go to hit the brakes it starts making a grinding noise. It starts at around 20mph and continues until about 4-5 mph then makes a very loud clunk/ bang that shakes the entire truck. I can feel it even if I have my stereo way up. After I take off the truck continues so make smaller clunking noises wile I accelerate. The truck never makes any noises wile at speed even during hard acceleration as long as its not from a stand still. I have tried putting in a new CV axel assembly because my old one had a large tear in it. I did not fix the problem and want to get some input before I go throwing more money and parts at it.

Thanks

So have you checked the brakes at all 4 corners (pads, calipers and rotors)? Is the parking brake working properly (engage and disengage correctly)?

Question

The rotors are fine and I just replaced the pads. What could be wrong with the calipers that would be making the noise? Also I don't think its anything with the back as the noise I noticeably coming from the front. The parking blake also works fine.

Thanks

It may seem obvious but have you checked to make sure that one of the front caliper bolts hasn't loosened itself up and the caliper is just laying inside the wheel. A quick look under your truck and you may not have noticed. Give it a closer look to see it hasn't misaligned. Good Luck

Question

Update, I found out that when I put the truck in 4WD the noise goes away.
