Default Is this a good deal

Hello. New member here, first post, and any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've been looking for a 1997-2003 for the last few months and just saw one post on craigslist. 1997 extended cab 4x4 119,800 miles asking $3200 obo. Ad says it needs a tune up and a/c needs fixed. I've searched forums here and feel confident I can do the tune up. Wouldn't try the a/c myself. I'm gonna try to post the actual ad so u guys can see the pics. Any other advice on what to look at would be great.

Here's the link:

Psh, yeah I would be jumping on that. Something may be very wrong with it though, or we live in very different areas. I payed 5k for my '97 with 160k miles on it. No upgrades, just a bare bones stock truck with the 4.6L in it.

Thanks. That's what I figured but I'm trying to get ammo to haggle a little. Any idea what it cost to get a/c repaired if its completely gone out?

Just like most repairs, it can be a cheap repair, in this case maybe a can of A/C pro or it can be the most expensive piece of the A/C you need. If you do look at the truck I would buy a can of A/C pro to see if you can fix it that way.

As far as BS haggling ideas:

The black "trim" almost looks spray painted in the pics, the carpeting is stained, looks like above the glove box is scuffed or the paint is coming off, and the radio doesn't look centered.

Not sure I am a fan of the 4x4 being on that little **** thing instead of the stick on the floor, but if it works it works. He does say "4 wheel drive runs and drives but needs tuneup", that could be a BIG problem, the front diff could be messed up, the Tcase could be done, etc.

How would I be able to diagnose the front differential and Tcase? I'm looking for a deal, but not trying to get burned in the process

get under that truck and make sure the rockers and cab corners are solid. if it has cancer eating it from the inside out be aware of the cost to repair it.

Thanks. I was definitely gonna be checking it for unseen rust. I'm more concerned with there being something mechanically wrong with the truck causing the price to be so low. I was thinking the black spray paint could be covering something.

replacing what he has painted shouldnt be a huge ordeal unless its because of a wreck
