Default Getting out the spare tire...

So I ran over a nail, and luckily my tire didn't go flat till I got home...but now my truck is sitting there with a flat tire, and I REALLY don't like that spray in sealer...
I have a spare tire, but i don't have that rod you use to lower the spare tire.

Is there another way to get it down??

if you got a nail, you may want to try a plug in the flat tire.... a tire plug can last for the life of the tire and you wont need to remove the tire to put it on.

Note:
If the puncture is caused by anything other than a nail or screw, plugging is not a good option.
If the nail or screw did not go in fairly close to perpendicular to the tread, the chances of the plug failing to seal go way up. It's better to patch this type of injury.
If the tire has a hole larger than 1/4", it probably should not be repaired with a plug or any other method.

I didn't even know about that special key socket....
Looks like a bit more work than I thought it was going to be.

Wow. That video could've been a LOT shorter.

Anyway, mine doesn't have "security key" and this truck has been in the family since it was new and no one has ever had a flat tire. I know mine works with just the rod because I took the spare tire down the other day when I was under there replacing the rear shocks.

Like most of you, I didn't have a flat tire, and I am not complaining about that. But after years of being pulled up by the winch, the spare tire was permanently dimpled/rubbed on the side wall at 2 contact areas.

When I replaced the spare last month, I cut up a foam insulation (with adhesive) for house plumbing to 3-4" long pieces and put them as a cushion between the spare and the spare well.
