Default Gem number help please!

I recently bought a 1998 F-150 Xlt 4.6 4x4 ESOF with power windows and locks. I have found that the Gem is bad and upon removing it, it appears someone was in there before me as there was 2 screws missing. The question I have is the number on the gem is F65B-14B205-CD, is this the original gem from this truck or has it been replaced? Also will a different number gem work, I am able to get one with part # F75B-14B205-AC but not sure what the numbers mean. It's my understanding that the last 2 letters are important but not sure what the mean and I can't seem to find one that ends in cd. Thanks for any help anyone can provide!!

Last 2 mean nothing. Thats just the part number. There is a serial number which corresponds to the program. Even if you get one you may have to have it programmed by VIN at the dealer.

If you scroll to the bottom of this page, (http://blog.autopartscheaper.com/) this guy talks about gems and what some of the numbers or letters mean and he says the last 2 are the most important. I know nothing about them and can't figure out if the one in the truck is original and if not then what number will work.

F6 tells me it was made in 96. F7 says 97.

I get that part, but what I'm not sure is if the number I found will work in this truck or not. Is there somewhere that these numbers can be decoded? Or does anyone on here have a 98 with esof that can tell me the number on theirs? Thanks

OK I had to call a few dealers to get the info since the truck is more than 10 years old, but for anyone else who might run into this problem here is what I found. These numbers will work for this truck with esof, F75B-14B205-ND, F75B-14B205-TA, and F85B-14B205-NA. I am looking for one now and will update after I install it to let everyone know if it worked or not without programming.

Not always. I had this issue recently due to a crappy aftermarket front window install. Ended up getting a used GEM with the same part number, same serial number, and programming number and nothing worked. Had to get it programmed at the dealer.

I've sold prolly 10 of them and they all work flawlessly. Strange!
