Under Hood "Key On" Source??
Is there a power source under the hood that is "key on" only? I have an accessory that I needs a "key on" only source....as opposed to a "constant hot".

Do you have a test light?

I'd try to find something that you know for sure would only have power when on. Like the radio, gauge cluster possibly, or the power windows or locks. Just throwing a few ideas out. Something is telling the power to the fuel pump might work also?

Use your meter To check the fuses under the hood. Once you find one, use an 'add a fuse'. I know the pcm/radio is hot when on in the cab but i don't know of the under hood fuses off hand.
Seems that windows/locks would not be the best choice. Locks work when the truck is off. Windows complete the circuit when pressed.
I was wiring up an amp one time for a friend and looking for a wire for remote turn on. First wire i tried was for the brake lights. Amp turned on whenever you stepped on the brake and off when released...haha.

Ya it took a couple minutes to figure it out. We were working on it with the door open (brake lights on), and then closed the door the amp shut off. I was like WTF? Where the heck is the short? Then when I started it I noticed it was on when my foot was on the brake.

Oh, we were.
It was an Impala that had a built in amp from the factory that was ripped out by thieves. I ended up finding a wiring diagram for it online and found a 'hot with key' wire.
